Quick answer: For most people, Canva is the better all-round choice: it has far more templates, a stronger video editor and better team tools. Adobe Express is the better pick if you already use Adobe apps, care most about AI image generation, or need to keep per-seat costs down for a team. Both have free plans that are good enough to try before you pay.
How we put this guide together: We have not run our own long-term test of either tool. We compared each company’s published plans and features (checked on October 10, 2026) with the findings of an independent reviewer who tested both side by side, Style Factory. Where a claim comes from one of them, we say so. Prices change often, so check the official pricing pages before you buy.

Where Canva comes out ahead
- More of everything. Style Factory found Canva has “a much broader feature set, far more templates”, along with a better video editor, more export options and stronger collaboration tools.
- Beyond social graphics. Canva also covers whiteboards, documents and mockups, and has a larger range of printed products. Adobe Express doesn’t offer all of these.
- Stock licensing. Style Factory notes that Canva’s stock licence terms are more flexible than Adobe’s.
- Team workflow. Canva Business adds team admin tools, approvals and up to 100 Brand Kits, which suits marketing teams producing a lot of on-brand content.
Where Adobe Express comes out ahead
- AI images. Style Factory found Adobe’s image generation tools “outshine Canva’s”, with better high-resolution output and more control.
- Cost for teams. At the prices listed today, an Adobe Express Teams seat costs less than a Canva Business seat, which Style Factory also highlights as “a much lower per-seat cost.”
- Adobe workflow. If you already use Photoshop, Illustrator or Premiere Pro, Express fits alongside them. Style Factory also notes its PDF exports keep layers editable in other apps.
- Cleaner interface and better support. Style Factory describes the interface as cleaner and points out that Adobe offers phone and live chat support, while Canva relies on a contact form.
Which is cheaper?
For one person, the gap is small. Canva Pro costs US$144 a year (US$12 a month when paid annually). Adobe Express Premium is US$9.99 a month on monthly billing, or just under US$120 a year. For teams, Adobe Express is clearly cheaper per seat at today’s listed prices, though both companies change pricing and run discounts, so compare the official pages on the day you buy.
Students, teachers and eligible non-profits should check the education and non-profit offers first: Canva says schools and not-for-profits can get most premium features free.
Which should you choose?
Our verdict: Choose Canva if you want the biggest template library, make a lot of video or presentations, or work in a team that needs shared brand kits and approvals. It is the safer all-round choice for most people.
Choose Adobe Express if you already pay for or use Adobe apps, AI image generation matters more to you than templates, or you are equipping a team on a tight per-seat budget.
Not sure? Start with both free plans and make the same three or four designs you make most often. The one that gets you there faster is the right one.
Frequently asked questions
Is Canva or Adobe Express better for beginners?
Both are built for people with no design training. Canva’s huge template library makes it very easy to start from something close to what you need; Adobe Express has a cleaner interface. Try the free plans to see which feels more natural.
Is Adobe Express free?
Yes. The free plan includes templates, more than a million Adobe Stock assets and a limited number of free AI generations. Premium features such as all premium templates, brand kits and 250 monthly generative credits need the Premium plan.
Do I get Adobe Express with other Adobe plans?
Adobe’s Firefly Pro plan (US$19.99 a month) includes Adobe Express Premium features plus Photoshop on web and mobile. If you already pay for an Adobe subscription, check what it includes before paying for Express separately.
Which is better for social media graphics?
Both handle social posts well, and both paid plans include post scheduling. Canva has more templates and a stronger video editor; Adobe Express has stronger AI image generation. For high-volume social content, Canva’s template range usually saves more time.
